Few people have heard about the Usha Village Wellness Center in La Ceiba. Just what is this “village” about? Where is it? The Usha Village Wellness Center is very near La Ceiba, in the neighboring municipality of Jutiapa, in Atlantida. It is right on highway CA13, which means that you can find in easily if you are driving from La Ceiba in direction to Trujillo. It is literally across the road from the Agua Blanca Village. The Usha Village Wellness Center was founded by Mr. Alfredo Bowman, better known as Dr. Sebi. He was one of the most distinguished African Hondurans in the country. He was probably better known outside of Honduras. Dr. Sebi passed away about three years ago in La Ceiba, but the Usha Village Wellness Center is still open and in full service.
I had the honor of meeting Dr. Sebi personally. He was an interesting character and had strong following, which many persons claiming that he had helped them cure of different diseases. Bowman was born in the nearby town of Ilanga, in Colon, and got himself a job as a machinist in a seafaring ship in Puerto Castilla, Trujillo. As such he traveled the world and had lots of fun, but did not take good care of himself. Soon he found himself with a bad case of diabetes. In his words, he was dying! So he set up to cure himself. He visited a Mexican shaman who helped him. Alfredo Bowman was so impressed, the he became an apprentice of this person and soon transformed to Dr. Sebi. He lived many years in the USA, but always wanted to come back to the land where he was born Honduras.

Thus, when he could, he purchased a property in the municipality of Jutiapa, very close to the City of La Ceiba. This is where he built the Usha Village Wellness Center. Although he passed away a few years ago, his daughter, Samna, is running the center. He made sure that he transferred his knowledge to her, and so his legacy continues to this day. The Village has several rooms. They are small and have their own bathroom. The site is perfect for persons in search of detoxifying themselves to recover their health. Guests at the village have strict vegetarian diet and regular baths in the natural hot springs at the village. There is even a steam bath where you will breathe the healing sulfurous vapors of the hot springs! Dr. Sebi told me that these hot springs had a perfectly neutral PH that was ideal to heal the body!

The Usha Village Wellness Center is open to Hondurans and foreigners alike. People from around the world visit the village. You can visit it during the day and enjoy a bath in the hot springs for a very reasonable price.
